Raising Concrete Floor Height
I had the same problem in the kitchen my uncle came up with the idea of gluing down plywood to the concrete using pl premium then mortar my tile on top of that.
Raising concrete floor height. If you don t want to go to the trouble of raising the height of the entire floor you can apply floor leveling compound just to the area around the doorway. Measure the height from the living room subfloor to the bottom of the adjacent room subfloor. If there is noticeable movement in the existing concrete floor up or down you probably have air pockets between the bottom of the concrete floor and the sub grade.
Adding 5 or 6 inches of concrete to your existing garage floor should be just fine if the existing concrete floor is in good condition meaning it hasn t settled drastically or heaved from freeze thaw cycles. I need to raise up the floor enough so that i can mortar and tile and have it as close as possible to existing hardwood level. If the living room is a single step down this will be approximately 7 inches.
For deeper floors the measurement will be more. An existing patio has flag stones set over a concrete slab. If you were to remove the flag stones and thinset what would be the best way to raise the level of the existing slab to make up for the lost height once the flagstones are removed.
